Avedøre wastewater Services

Spildevandscentret (Avedøre Wastewater Services) ensures that the wastewater from our owners, 10 suburban municipalities west of Copenhagen, is transported to the treatment plant and thoroughly treated before being released to the natural environment.

The catchment area is about 10.025 hectares of which 85% is serviced by a separate and 15% by a combined sewer system. The total length of the sewer network is 2.300 km.

Avedøre Wastewater Services provides the following services to the owners:

- Collection of wastewater. The company own and operate the trunk sewers, large retention basins and pumping stations in the catchment area. The local municipal sewer network transports the wastewater to this system and through this it is transported further on to the treatment plant.´

-  Wastewater treatment: 25 – 30 million m3 of wastewater is treated annually at our modern treatment plant. Here the water is undergoing tertiary treatment and sludge is incinerated in a fluidized bed incineration plant.

- Operation of local sewer networks and treatment plants. Avedøre Wastewater Services operates the sewer network for two municipalities, all together 450 km sewer network. Further, the company operates a local treatment plant connected to a local community in one of the owner municipalities.

- Shared services brings value to the owner municipalities. This includes operating a Public Awareness centre and information services as well as operating a database comprising sewer network data for the entire catchment area. Other services include flow recordings in the sewers, coordination and procurement activities. 

We ensures that our effluent standards meets the stringent DK and European standards as we are registred by EMAS and the environmental management standards ISO 14001 and the international occupational health and safety management system OHSAS 18000

The Company is owned by 10 municipalities west of Copenhagen, capital of Denmark.

The municipalities are: Albertslund, Ballerup, Brøndby, Glostrup, Herlev, Hvidovre, Høje-Taastrup, Ishøj, Rødovre og Vallensbæk with a population of app. 265.000 people:
